Ensuring Women‘s Empowerment through Panchayati Raj Institutions: A study of West Bengal

Although the 73rd amendment act of the constitution provided one third reservation (now 50%) for women but it is a necessary though not a sufficient condition for their empowerment. Representation of women in Panchayats will be real and effective only if it leads to their empowerment. This paper examines the conditions which will ensure the empowerment of women representatives.
