The use of microbial cells for heavy metal removal from the water bodies offers an inexpensive alternative compared to conventional methods. Yeast being a typical eukaryote, has many essential features similar to higher eukaryotes. Bio-accumulation of Cr3+ ion by Saccharomyces cerevisiae was studied. Yeast cells were grown in the presence of different concentrations of Cr3+ for 7h. Variation in total protein content is correlated with accumulation of Cr3+ .
